In Transcarpathia, firefighters extinguished a large fire at a Ukrainian Orthodox Church monastery

A serious fire broke out in Transcarpathia at one of the monasteries of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church: rescue workers managed to prevent the complete destruction of the Archangel Michael Men’s Monastery in the village of Hrushevo, Tyachiv District. This was reported by and Ukrinform.
A report of a fire on Monastyrska Street was received by the duty officer at 5:31 p.m. According to the monastery’s clergy, a distinct smell of burning was noticeable even before open flames appeared. When smoke became visible, fire crews from Teresva, the Solotvyno community, and the city of Tyachiv were quickly dispatched to the scene.
Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that the fire had engulfed a significant portion of the building and had spread to the roof. The situation was complicated by the building’s interior plastic finish, which caused the flames to spread rapidly. The total area affected by the fire was 100 square meters. Despite the efforts of firefighters, who fully extinguished the fire within an hour, the flames destroyed the roof and a significant portion of the church’s property, and also damaged liturgical books, ceiling beams, and religious artifacts.
As a reminder, we previously reported that an incident occurred in the village of Toporovtsy in the Chernivtsi region, during which the dome of a Ukrainian Orthodox Church caught fire. The fire was quickly contained thanks to the timely response of emergency responders, who prevented extensive damage to the church building.
