The traditional pilgrimage on foot to the Pochaiv Lavra began in Kamianets-Podilskyi

On August 19, 2026, immediately after the conclusion of the festive liturgy in honor of the Transfiguration of the Lord, a traditional procession of many thousands set out from Kamianets-Podilskyi, heading for the Pochaiv Lavra. According to a correspondent for (SPZ), the procession participants will cover a distance of about 250 kilometers.
According to the plan, the pilgrims will arrive at the holy monastery on August 27, immediately on the eve of the Feast of the Dormition of the Most Holy Mother of God. The entire journey will take the faithful 8 days. It is worth noting that the history of this pilgrimage spans nearly two centuries and traces its origins to the miraculous healing of a blind girl, Anna Akimchukova, in 1832. After praying before the miraculous Pochaev Icon of the Mother of God and being washed with water from the holy spring, the child regained her sight, an event that played a significant role in strengthening Orthodoxy in the region.
As a reminder, it was previously announced that the traditional annual religious procession, which was scheduled to begin on August 19 from the Holy Trinity Brailov Women’s Monastery to the Dormition Pochaev Lavra, will not take place this year. The decision to cancel the procession was made due to the martial law in effect and a corresponding order from the Vinnytsia Regional Administration.
