Another court hearing has been scheduled in Kyiv regarding the Upper Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra

On August 26, 2026, a key court hearing regarding the legal status of the Upper Territory of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra will take place in Kyiv. The hearing will take place at the Northern Economic Court of Appeals. This was reported by Archpriest Nikita Chekman, the lawyer for the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
According to information provided by the monastery’s attorney, Archpriest Nikita Chekman, the hearing is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. The trial will take place at the following address: 1-A Sholudenko Street, Kyiv. The lawyer calls on the faithful to offer their prayers and to remain calm during this critical moment.
Special attention is being paid to security issues: the lawyer warned of possible provocations by opponents of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Believers are urged not to engage in confrontational actions and to adhere to legal standards of conduct during the hearings. It should be noted that public interest in the fate of the Lavra remains high, as previously evidenced by various events held on its grounds, including a summit of first ladies and gentlemen led by Olena Zelenska.
It should be noted that earlier, Maksym Ostapenko, director of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra National Reserve, presented a development concept for the holy site to the diplomatic corps, stating that in the future it should become the “Ukrainian Vatican.”
