Former MP Ihor Mosiychuk criticized the authorities' inaction following the attack on the Svyatogorsk Lavra

Former Ukrainian People's Deputy Ihor Mosiychuk sharply criticized the country's law enforcement agencies for their silence regarding the tragic incident at the Svyatogorsk Lavra. The politician expressed outrage that the leadership of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, the Security Service of Ukraine, and the National Police had not issued any official statements for two days regarding the attack, which resulted in injuries to members of the clergy.

The incident occurred on August 23, 2026, near the St. Nicholas Church on the monastery grounds. During the attack, carried out by unidentified individuals, Monk Varsonofy (Vasily Turyansky) was killed, while Monk Gregory and novice Andrei were transported to Kharkiv with serious injuries. Mosiychuk specifically noted that the crime was committed in a frontline zone subject to special military regulations, which, in his opinion, indicates serious failures in ensuring security.

According to the former member of parliament, the lack of a prompt response from the authorities could be perceived as a signal of impunity for those involved in the crime. At this time, law enforcement agencies are continuing their criminal investigation, but no suspects have yet been identified. On August 25, a funeral service was held at the Lavra’s Assumption Cathedral for the deceased monk, who was buried alongside the monks who fell victim to the shelling in 2022.
