The Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia expressed his support for the Svyatogorsk Lavra following the tragic death of a monk

Metropolitan Nicholas, the First Hierarch of the Russian Orthodox Church Outside of Russia (ROCOR), sent an official message of condolence to Metropolitan Arsenius, the abbot of the Svyatogorsk Lavra, and to the entire monastic community. The message was prompted by a tragic event—the murder of Monk Varsonofy—which has caused deep sorrow among the faithful of the overseas flock. The hierarch assured the monastery of his prayerful sympathy and spiritual solidarity.

In his message at , Metropolitan Nicholas emphasized that the news of the monk’s death was received by the Church abroad with sincere sorrow. The archpastor noted that the Svyatogorsk Lavra holds special significance for the Russian Orthodox Church Outside Russia (ROCOR), recalling historical ties, including the fact that the monastery is the resting place of the relics of St. John of Shanghai and San Francisco. According to His Eminence, the spiritual bond between the monasteries remains unbreakable, despite any geographical distances and external trials.

Metropolitan Nicholas offered prayers for the repose of the soul of the slain monk Varsonofy, as well as for the speedy recovery and strengthening of another resident of the monastery—Monk Gregory, who was also injured. The Primate called on the faithful to pray for the safety of the monastery and the courage of its monastic community during these difficult times. He expressed hope that the steadfastness of the slain monk would serve as an example of fidelity to the Christian calling.
