Chief Rabbi of Ukraine: Anti-Semitism in the country is lower than in the U.S. and Europe

Chief Rabbi of Ukraine Moshe Reuven Asman stated that Jews in Ukraine feel safer than they do in a number of Western countries. According to him, unlike in the U.S. and Europe, where Jews are often forced to hide their identity, members of the community in Ukraine can freely observe religious traditions and wear traditional clothing without fear of threats.

According to “RBC-Ukraine,” the spiritual leader reached these conclusions following a recent trip to North America. During meetings with representatives of Western society, he emphasized that the level of antisemitism in Ukraine is significantly lower than in Western countries, including American university campuses.

“A week ago, I returned from the U.S. and Canada, where many propaganda narratives are circulating. During my meetings, I told Americans: the level of anti-Semitism in Ukraine is much lower than in Europe or at American universities,” Moshe Asman noted, reported. According to him, Jewish organizations in the West often advise believers not to display their religious affiliation due to the high risks involved. In Ukraine, however, Jews enjoy complete freedom of religion and also receive state support for their volunteer activities.

As a reminder, we previously reported that authorities in the Cherkasy region announced the introduction of special traffic restrictions in Uman from September 4 to 17. The restrictions are related to the annual Hasidic pilgrimage to celebrate the Jewish New Year.
