In Zaporizhzhia, the city council transferred ownership of the premises of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church’s hospital chapel to the Orthodox Church of Ukraine

The Zaporizhzhia authorities have decided to transfer the building of the church dedicated to the martyrs Falaleus and Trifon—which was previously used by a congregation of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC)—to the OCU. It is reported that the 136-square-meter premises were provided to the OCU on preferential lease terms for a symbolic fee of one hryvnia.

is referring to a property located on the grounds of the former 10th City Hospital at 25 Shevchenko Boulevard. The building is on the balance sheet of the City Hospital for Emergency and Ambulance Medical Care. City council members approved the transfer of the property without holding an auction.

It is worth noting that the parish of the Church in Honor of the Martyrs Falalei and Trifon of the Zaporizhzhia Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church had been using these premises for divine services for nearly twenty years, beginning in 2006. However, in 2023, city authorities voted to terminate lease agreements with parishes of the UOC, which led to the cancellation of the relevant contracts. Previously, information had also emerged regarding the administration’s plans for this hospital church.

As a reminder, in Zaporizhzhia, the administration of City Hospital No. 5 denied the community of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (UOC) access to the chapel dedicated to the Icon of the Mother of God “The Healer.” The incident, which involved blocking the entrance to the premises with hospital equipment and threats of criminal prosecution, drew sharp criticism from the Zaporizhzhia Diocese.
