Sviatoslav Shevchuk, head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, called for bringing migrants to Ukraine to combat the demographic crisis

Sviatoslav Shevchuk, head of the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, stated that the integration of migrants into Ukrainian society is necessary as one of the tools for overcoming the demographic crisis. He shared his views during a meeting with experts from the Frontier Institute, where they discussed the country’s development path in light of current challenges.

Sviatoslav Shevchuk emphasized that modern Ukraine must forge a new type of political nation. According to him, this community should not be limited exclusively to ethnic Ukrainians but should become a space for everyone who is ready to work together to build an independent and united state.

In addition to the issue of attracting migrants, the head of the UGCC addressed the problem of mass emigration of Ukrainian citizens. He expressed concern about the risk of complete assimilation of Ukrainians abroad and the lack of incentives for them to return to their homeland. Shevchuk emphasized the need to develop a state policy on reintegration, noting that the demographic crisis cannot be resolved by force. In his view, the key to rectifying the situation lies in creating conditions that will restore people’s confidence in the future and their certainty about tomorrow—which are essential for family planning.

In concluding his remarks, the head of the UGCC summarized that for Ukraine, victory in the current conflict lies not only in restoring its borders, but first and foremost in preserving the life and future of the nation.
