U.S. negotiators Witkoff and Kushner visited St. Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv

Steven Witkoff and Jared Kushner visited the “St. Sophia of Kyiv” National Reserve, where they learned about Ukraine’s cultural heritage. The guests toured St. Sophia Cathedral—an outstanding architectural monument from the 11th century.
During the tour Witkoff and Kushner paid special attention to the unique Byzantine mosaics and frescoes that have survived to this day. Representatives of the reserve emphasized that “St. Sophia Cathedral in Kyiv is a place where Ukraine’s history speaks to the modern world,” noting the importance of experiencing the capital’s millennia-old heritage.
It should be noted that Volodymyr Zelenskyy recently introduced a package of bills aimed at legally enshrining the status of national shrines and strengthening criminal liability for their intentional damage. The initiative is designed to ensure a special legal regime for sites of exceptional historical, cultural, and spiritual value to Ukrainian statehood.
