The OCU has called for a lane in the capital to be renamed in honor of Filaret Denisenko

The leadership of the OCU has officially expressed its support for the initiative to rename Rylsky Lane, located in the historic center of Kyiv, in honor of Filaret (Denisenko). The organization is calling on local residents to participate in a poll via the “Kyiv Digital” app to solidify this decision.

In their statement at , representatives of the OCU emphasize Filaret Denisenko’s key role in the formation of the modern church structure. Supporters of the initiative are convinced that Denisenko’s work deserves to be immortalized on the city map, as it holds a special place in recent history—both for the local church and for the state as a whole.

According to the organization’s position, it was Filaret’s actions that were the decisive factor in holding the “Unification Council” in December 2018 within the walls of St. Sophia Cathedral. The OCU notes that the decisions he made were necessary for the organizational formation of a unified church structure, which subsequently led to the granting of the Tomos of Autocephaly.

As a reminder, it was previously reported that representatives of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church–Kyiv Patriarchate (UOC-KP) were unable to attend the official funeral service for their spiritual leader, Filaret Denisenko, citing pressure and threats from OCU supporters. Since they were unable to attend the main funeral service, the organization’s newly elected head, Nikodim, conducted an alternative memorial service and announced a forty-day period of intensified prayer in all of the organization’s communities.
