Metropolitan George of Karpenisi: Modern Society Has Lost Its Spiritual Ideals

During the celebration of the feast day of St. Nicholas of Karpenisi, held on September 23, 2026, Metropolitan George of Karpenisi delivered a message of concern to the younger generation. According to the Orthodoxia News Agency ( ), the hierarch expressed concern about the spiritual state of the people, who, in his view, have turned their backs on their roots.
In his sermon, the metropolitan emphasized that modern society has lost its fundamental values and ideals, which, according to His Eminence, is leading the people down a path toward catastrophe. He called on the faithful to realize that the world does not revolve around a single country and reminded them of the need to rethink their life priorities.
The central theme of his address was the veneration of the Church’s new martyrs. His Eminence George recalled the strength of faith of those who, in past centuries, gave their lives for Christ, becoming an example of steadfastness for future generations. He expressed hope that today’s youth, as they face challenges and social difficulties, will turn their attention to the spiritual feats of their ancestors. ““We want young people to hear the voice of the local saints, so that this land may once again produce true heroes—people of faith and knowledge who will serve as a guiding light for all of Greece,” the metropolitan concluded.
