At a UN meeting, the Russian Foreign Minister once again leveled accusations against Ukraine regarding violations of the rights of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church

Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov, during his speech at a UN meeting, once again raised the issue of violations of the rights of the canonical Ukrainian Orthodox Church on Ukrainian territory.

, Lavrov’s speech devoted particular attention to the situation of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The Russian Foreign Minister emphasized the need to comply with Article 1 of the UN Charter, which obligates states to respect fundamental human rights and freedoms without discrimination on religious grounds. Lavrov characterized the legal norms currently in place in Ukraine as “unacceptable” and in violation of the fundamental principles of international law.

It should be recalled that at the 63rd session of the UN Human Rights Council in Geneva, Metropolitan Theodosius (Snigirev) of Cherkasy and Kaniv spoke out against the discriminatory policies toward the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. In his video address, the bishop drew the international community’s attention to the problems of the forced mobilization of UOC clergy and the systematic violation of their rights.
