A book about the church conflict in Ukraine was published by the Phanar

The Phanar has published a book titled “Ukrainian Church Affairs: A Chronicle of the War.” According to a review, the work by journalist Panagiotis Antoniou Andriopoulos is “an analysis of four years of ecclesiastical upheaval caused by the Russian invasion of Ukraine.” As reported by the website Φως Φαναρίου, the publication compiles the author’s writings from 2022 to 2026 and reveals the scale of the crisis from the perspective of the Patriarchate of Constantinople, a crisis that has extended far beyond the boundaries of a single region.
The author argues that the conflict in Ukraine has merely laid bare the deep-seated problems of modern Orthodoxy: dependence on state interests, nationalist ambitions, and contradictory ecclesiological views.
Furthermore, in his book, Andriopoulos contrasts the positions of Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia and Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople, comparing the two primates’ attitudes toward the war between Russia and Ukraine.
As a reminder, Metropolitan Nektarios of Kerkyra previously visited Russia, bringing one of the most revered relics in the Orthodox world—the right hand of Saint Spyridon of Trimythous—for the faithful to venerate. The relic was brought from the Greek island of Corfu on August 17, 2026, with the blessing of Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia.
