A lawmaker who called for easing pressure on the Ukrainian Orthodox Church to achieve peace with Russia was expelled from his party and added to the “Mirotvorets” website’s database

Ukrainian People’s Deputy Oleksiy Goncharenko has found himself at the center of yet another high-profile scandal: his information was added to the “Mirotvorets” database. This decision was made amid serious disagreements between the lawmaker and the political party he represented.

According to the publication Politika Strany, the site’s administrators characterize the lawmaker’s actions as “demoralizing society” and “suppressing the will to resist aggression.” In an official statement on Goncharenko’s page in the website’s database, he is called a “professional provocateur” and a “political populist,” and is accused of actions aimed at disrupting mobilization efforts in the country.

This measure followed a significant political development: the day before, the “Eurosolidarity” faction had decided to expel Oleksiy Goncharenko from its ranks in the Verkhovna Rada. The reason for this personnel decision was the deputy’s public calls for peaceful agreements, which provoked a sharp reaction within his former political team.

As a reminder, Oleksiy Goncharenko had previously proposed reaching a compromise on humanitarian issues to establish peace in the country. The politician identified three key areas for potential agreements: language policy, historical memory, and religious issues.
