In Kalush, Ivano-Frankivsk Oblast, a selected church of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church will be transferred to the newly formed community of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine

A new OCU religious community dedicated to St. Nicholas has been officially registered in the city of Kalush. The initiative has received support from city authorities, and in the future, the building of the St. Nicholas Church of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church—which had previously been seized from the local congregation of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church—will be transferred to the newly formed congregation.
According to information from provided by Kalush Mayor Andriy Naida, Fedir Moroz has been appointed spiritual leader of the new parish. The Executive Committee of the Kalush City Council has already approved the community’s activities and prepared a report for the registration of its charter.
“Going forward, the parish will hold services in the church where the UOC congregation previously worshipped,” explained Lyubov Dzhugan, head of the Department of Culture, Nationalities, and Religions. Currently, the package of documents has been sent to the relevant department of the Ivano-Frankivsk Regional State Administration, and the official procedure for transferring the premises to the new church community is expected to be completed.
It is worth noting that the St. Nicholas Church of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church ( ) was seized by armed supporters of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine (OCU) back in 2022. Since then and up to the present day, the church has been sealed off and closed to the public.
