Pope Leo XIV called for peace in Ukraine

During Sunday’s “Angelus” prayer, Pope Leo XIV once again appealed to the international community to bring about peace in Ukraine. According to Vatican News, the pontiff emphasized that the protracted conflict continues to cause suffering to people far beyond the region, especially in the poorest countries that depend on food imports.
The head of the Catholic Church expressed particular concern about the fate of grain exports through the Black Sea. “The daily bread of millions of people cannot be held hostage by war,” the pope said, noting that historically, Ukraine has accounted for about 10% of the world’s wheat supply, 15% of the corn market, and 13% of barley shipments.
As a reminder, the Russian Foreign Ministry previously stated that without the restoration of the rights of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, a peace agreement with Ukraine is impossible.
