An ecumenical prayer service attended by members of various faiths was held at the church on Khortytsia Island, which was recently taken from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church

On the grounds of the “Zaporizhzhia Sich,” located on Khortytsia Island, a joint ecumenical religious service was held to mark Chaplain’s Day, bringing together representatives of various religious organizations, including the OCU, the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church, and Protestant communities.

According to the Zaporizhzhia City Council, the event was led by OCU chaplain Viktor Tkach. During the event, a joint prayer for Ukraine was offered. City officials emphasized that, despite denominational differences, all participants are united by a common mission—spiritual ministry to Ukrainian servicemen.

It is worth noting that earlier, the All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations (ACCRO) submitted a proposal to President Volodymyr Zelenskyy to officially establish Military Chaplain Day at the national level.

As a reminder, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine previously approved amendments to the “Regulations on the Procedure for Issuing a Mandate for the Right to Perform Military Chaplaincy Activities” within the Armed Forces of Ukraine. According to the new amendments, priests of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church are permanently prohibited from performing chaplaincy duties in military units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
