Greek Orthodox Church elected five new metropolitans

The Holy Synod of the Hierarchy of the Greek Orthodox Church, chaired by Archbishop Jerome of Athens and All Greece, was held at the Monastery of the Dormition of the Most Holy Theotokos in Penteli. This is reported by Sedmitsa.

On October 8, the Holy Synod of the Hierarchy of the Greek Orthodox Church began voting on the issue of replacing the five vacant metropolitan sees. Earlier, four metropolitans died and one resigned.

As a result, the procedures for the election of five new metropolitans were completed.

The ordination of Metropolitan Langadas, Litya and Rentini Plato (Krikris) took place on Saturday, October 9. The ordination of the new Metropolitan of Kastoria Kallinikos (Georgatos) took place on Sunday, October 10.

Next Saturday, October 16, Metropolitan Bartholomew of Kilkisi (Antoniou-Triantafillidis) will be ordained, and on Sunday, October 17, Metropolitan Gregory of Peristeria (Papatomas) will be ordained.

Finally, on Monday, October 18, the ordination of the new Metropolitan of Fira, Amorgos and the Isles of Amphilochius (Rusakis) will take place.
