Daughter of Orthodox journalist Jan Taksyur: Father is judged because he “thinks differently”

The daughter of the Kyiv satirist and Orthodox journalist Yan Taksyur, Mariko, published a video message in which she spoke about the accusations of “undermining the sovereignty of the Ukrainian state” against her father. She asks for help in organizing the legal defense of her father, who is accused unfairly.

“My father is not a military man or a representative of the authorities; he does not know any military secrets. All he has is a word. Does a satirist in a democratic country in the 21st century have no right to express his opinion in his literary works?” Mariko says.

She explained that a prosecution claims that a psychological and linguistic examination the literary works of the satirist was made, on the basis of which they ‘made a conclusion” that they “undermine the sovereignty of the state.”

She expressly wonders which exactly piece of poetry was that?

Mariko also cites his father’s statement at the trial, in which he stressed that he was a satirist and criticized the authorities under all presidents. “But now I’m on trial for dissent – because I think otherwise,” he said.

Mariko asks for help in raising funds for the legal defense of the writer.
