Archbishop Sylvester: Many people perceive the UOC through the prism of myths spread in the media

From sociological surveys regarding the confessional affiliation of Ukrainians, incorrect conclusions are drawn, because sociologists put an equal sign between the sympathies of the public and real parishioners. The rector of the Kyiv Theological Academy and Seminary, Archbishop Sylvester of Belogorodsk, spoke about this during a video conference with Greek journalists, the Information and Education Department of the UOC reports.

According to Rector, Ukrainian sociology, unfortunately, is far from objectivity and often produces results that are beneficial to the customer.

«We understand that when the media daily publishes news about how bad representatives of the UOC are, a picture will be created that we are negative in every sense. And many people who watch the news are influenced, believe the news channels and perceive us through the prism of these created myths. And, of course, when asked whether they are sympathizers of the OCU or the UOC, they will answer in favor of the OCU, but further on they will remain people in front of TVs, and not people who really stand in the temple of the OCU.”

The bishop also drew attention to the fact that in many churches there is a broadcast of worship, with the help of which you can see the real picture of the number of parishioners in the churches of the UOC and OCU.
