In Cherkassy, the project to deprive the UOC of land did not get the required number of votes

On May 26, 2023, the Cherkasy Regional Council voted for a project that provides for the deprivation of the UOC of land plots under churches in the region. But he did not get enough votes, Suspilne reports.

The corresponding appeal to the President and the Verkhovna Rada was supported only by 18 deputies of the regional council out of 48 present, 10 more abstained, 20 elected did not vote.

According to the deputy of the regional council Alexander Radutsky, European Solidarity supported unanimously:

«Our European Solidarity faction voted unanimously to cancel all lease relations with the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. As they say, the Moscow Church. Why? Because we see how they bring confusion to society, directly working for Russia.»

But regional council deputy Alexander Velbivets said that the authorities’ calls to ban the Church «are acquiring some ridiculous signs.» He is sure that by such attempts the deputies «earn political dividends for themselves on what they do not need to earn».
