Greek journalists called Metropolitan Pavel's imprisonment "torture"

The Greek publication Romfea expressed doubts about the justified court decision on Metropolitan Pavel, and called the arrest of the hierarch “torture by the Ukrainian authorities”.

The journalists also noted the amount of bail of more than 33 million hryvnias, which the hierarch of the UOC may pay to the state in order to be released from custody. He believes this is unlawful, as the accused of murder Ukrainian court released on bail in the amount of 100 thousand UAH, and the suspect in the case of selling children – in 1 million UAH.

“During the trial, Metropolitan Pavel emphasized the personal, not public, nature of his phone conversations. He also questioned the authenticity of some conversations, pointing out that he was not aware of the people whose voices were heard on the recording. It should be noted that the court did not take into account the vladyka’s objections, refusing to call as witnesses those persons who allegedly were the interlocutors,” the publication added
