Court stops Chernivtsi City Council's lawsuit to evict UOC religious community

On October 17, 2023 the Economic Court of Chernivtsi region stopped the consideration of the case on the claim of the Chernivtsi city council to remove obstacles in the exercise of the right to use and dispose of the temple-tomb of the Three Saints in the city cemetery of Chernivtsi, by releasing it by members of the religious community of the UOC. This was reported by the press service of the Chernivtsi-Bukovyna Eparchy.

The court justified its decision by the fact that the religious community of the UOC and the rightful owner – the parish of St. Nicholas Church in Chernivtsi – had previously filed a lawsuit in the Economic Court of Chernivtsi region to cancel the decision of the Chernivtsi City Council, by which the city council deprived the religious community and the rightful owner of the right to use the temple-tomb.

The diocese assumes that the Chernivtsi city council will appeal this decision in the court of appeal. “But we hope that he too will make the only correct and fair decision”, – stated in the message.
