An international conference on the problem of pressure on the UOC was held in Rome

On April 27, 2024, an international conference called “Rome Consultation” was held in Rome, where participants paid special attention to the problem of state-church relations in Ukraine and persecution of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. This is reported by the website Baznica.info.
It is reported that the conference was attended by priests, religious scholars, lawyers, sociologists and experts from Ukraine and European countries. The participants analyzed the observance of norms of religious freedom in Ukraine on the example of pressure on the Ukrainian Orthodox Church by local and national authorities.
As a result of the conference, a “Rome Declaration” was adopted, in which the participants of the “Rome Consultation” described their attitude to the pressure of the Ukrainian authorities against the UOC. “In a number of cases we can confidently state the repressive nature of criminal cases initiated with the use of dubious evidence. In our opinion, their purpose is to prevent the legitimate human rights public activities of bishops and clerics of the UOC and it can be characterized as a violation of freedom of religion and interference of special services in the activities of a religious organization,” — said in a statement.
We will remind, earlier we reported that Konotop district Prosecutor’s office sent to the court an indictment against 53-year-old resident of Konotop district, who “approved and distributed” in the social network “disparaging information” about the OCU. The woman faces a fine or restriction of freedom for up to 5 years.
