On May 18, 2024 the delegation of the Department for External Church Relations of the Russian Orthodox Church, headed by its chairman, Metropolitan Anthony of Volokolamsk, arrived on a working visit to Cyprus. During the visit, the head of the Russian Orthodox Church’s Department for External Church Relations met with Metropolitan Athanasios of Limassol, the hierarch of the Orthodox Church of Cyprus. This is reported by the Communication Service of the Russian Orthodox Church’s DECR.

“Welcoming the guests from the Russian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Athanasius said that it was a great joy and blessing for him to receive the envoy of His Holiness Patriarch Kirill of Moscow and All Russia. He called the consecration of the Russian St. Nicholas Church in Limassol a major event and expressed the hope that this church will be a bridge linking the Russian and Cypriot Orthodox Churches. Hierarchs exchanged views on the ecclesiastical situation in Cyprus and in the whole Orthodox world,” – stated in the message.
