The Ministry of Culture told about the first results of the inspection in Pochaev Lavra

Representatives of a special commission of the Ukrainian Ministry of Culture and Information Policy have spoken about the first results of the inspection that is being conducted on the territory of the Holy Dormition Pochaev Lavra. According to the officials, the commission found some changes, which, however, did not affect the deterioration of the monastery’s buildings. About it reports “Ukrinform”.

“We inspect three objects, which are the most valuable, the oldest part of our national shrine. Since 2003 they are in the use of the monastery of the Holy Dormition Pochaev Lavra. We check the condition of these objects, as well as the territory of the shrine. The state owns six objects – the Assumption and Trinity Cathedrals, the Bishop’s House, the cell block, the bell tower, the gatehouse and the territory, which together with the objects was transferred for use. During the inspection of the objects the commission found changes. There were improvements, i.e. replacement of floors, wall cladding, new wall paintings, additions in some cases. And this requires a detailed analysis, reconciliation of documents, clarification of circumstances: how, what and when. After all, our legislation stipulates that any work on monuments of national importance must be directly coordinated by the Ministry as the central body in the field of cultural heritage protection”, – said the chairman of the commission – head of the coordination of cultural institutions of the Department of Cultural Heritage Olga Rutkovska.

In turn, the Pochaev Monastery reported that they are interested in the preservation of the monastery and assist the work of the commission in every possible way.

“We contribute to such inspections, because it is in the interests of the state and our monastic brotherhood. We all want as much as possible to preserve this shrine in proper condition as a historical monument,” – said the spokesman of Pochaev Lavra Archimandrite Gabriel.

We will remind, earlier we reported that on May 24, 2024 on the website of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine was published a decree, which informs about the formation of a commission to conduct an inspection of state property on the territory of the Holy Assumption Pochaev Lavra, transferred for use to the Holy Assumption Pochaev Monastery of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in 2003. The commission will work on the territory of the Lavra from June 3 to June 29.
