Court decides to "evict" UOC nunnery from occupied premises in Chernihiv

On July 4, 2024, the Northern Economic Court of Appeal issued a decision demanding the Chernihiv Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church to evict from the premises of the complex of buildings of the Eletsky Nunnery, which is an architectural monument of national importance. The court decision was made according to the claim, which was filed by the national historical and cultural reserve «Chernihiv Ancient». About it reports the website of the Ministry of culture and information policy of Ukraine.

«By the decision of the Northern economic court of appeal on the case of 04. 07. 2024 the claim of the National architectural and historical reserve «Chernihiv Ancient» is satisfied in full. Also was canceled the decision of the economic court of Chernihiv region from 15.01.2024 in the case on the claim of the reserve to the management of the Chernihiv diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church on the obligation to return the property and remove obstacles to the use of property by eviction (complex of structures of the Eletsky monastery)», — stated in the message.

Thus, the community of the Holy Assumption Eletsky nunnery Chernihiv diocese of the UOC is forced to leave the occupied premises to satisfy the requirements of the court.

Recall, earlier we reported that June 28, 2024 «opening» in the format of a museum of the ancient Cathedral of the Transfiguration of the Savior of Chernihiv, which was taken away from the Chernihiv diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in October 2023. It is reported that from now on the entrance to the temple will be paid, and it is no longer planned to perform Divine services in it.
