Ukraine's ombudsman draws attention to illegal detention of Sviatogorsk Lavra vicar in pre-trial detention center

Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets has reacted to a parliamentary appeal by Artem Dmytruk over the illegal detention of Metropolitan Arseniy (Yakovenko), the vicar of the Holy Assumption Svyatogorsk Lavra, in a remand center. The ombudsman assured that from his side will be followed by a reaction to those who illegally prolonged the detention of the hierarch. About this Dmytruk wrote in his Telegram-channel.

“The Commissioner for human rights Dmitry Lubinets instructed to conduct an inspection on the fact of illegal detention in the pre-trial detention center of the vicar of Svyatogorsk Lavra Metropolitan Arseny. In response to my appeal, Dmytro Lubinets also indicated that from the authorized bodies will follow a reaction to the “extension of the measure of restraint to the hierarch of the UOC by an unauthorized person”. This is very good. We are waiting for the results of the investigation and hope that our dear Lord Arseny will be released from imprisonment as soon as possible, and he will finally return to the monastery to his flock!”, — wrote the MP.

Recall, earlier we reported that the hierarch of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church vicar of the Holy Assumption Svyatogorsk Lavra Metropolitan Arseniy (Yakovenko) is being held in the pre-trial detention center despite the fact that the term of the hierarch’s detention in the detention center expired on June 22. This situation has arisen because court hearings in the metropolitan’s case are constantly postponed, and the venue for the hearing on this issue was determined only on July 1.
