“The church will be the subject of negotiations with the Russian Federation": MP Osadchuk explained why in the Rada can not ban the UOC

Ukrainian MP of the Golos party Andriy Osadchuk has shared his opinion on why the Verkhovna Rada is still unable to pass draft law No 8371 aimed at banning the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Osadchuk is convinced that the UOC will be the subject of future peace talks with Russia. About this he told on air of TV channel “The Straight”.
“It looks like the Bankova(address of the Office of the President of Ukraine, – ed.) is letting things go because, perhaps, they see this as one of the points that they are ready to discuss with the Russian Federation. Over the last three months, Vladimir Zelensky has probably already talked about the possibility of negotiations with the Russian Federation a dozen times, which actually admitted his mistake in the fall of ’22, when he forbade himself to hold talks with Putin. However, it is now obvious that it is necessary to return to the format of asemitric dialogs. It is clear that there will be very different blocks on this table of future dialogs. It is clear that there will be a humanitarian component, and I have no doubt that Moscow will include the issue of the Russian Church in Ukraine among its ultimatums. Providing it with security guarantees, property rights and further down the list,” – Osadchuk said.
It is worth noting that the Raskolam.net website recently published an analytical article titled “How the UOC became the ‘golden calf’ of the Ukrainian authorities”. The publication, in particular, points out that the epic with the ban of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church is in fact one of the ways of raising the stakes by the Ukrainian government before the upcoming peace talks with Russia. The author of the article pointed out that the UOC will definitely be the subject of negotiations between Ukraine and the Russian Federation.
