“There were signals from the Ukrainian embassy in Washington - not to vote for the ban of the UOC,” - mass media

The Radio Liberty publication, citing its own sources, reports that the US political establishment is critical of the initiative of Ukrainian MPs to ban the Ukrainian Orthodox Church by passing the scandalous bill No 8371. This is why, according to the publication, this law was not voted on Tuesday, July 23 in the Ukrainian Parliament.

“Radio Liberty sources in several parliamentary factions confirmed that on the eve of the bill’s consideration on July 23, there were “hot signals” from the Ukrainian embassy in Washington – not to vote for the law because it would hit Ukrainian positions and reputations abroad. Interestingly, in April, Ohio Senator James Vance, who became the Republican candidate for Vice President along with Donald Trump, in one of his speeches in April spoke directly about the alleged “oppression” of Orthodox Christians in Ukraine, referring to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church (MP). It is clear that there are concerns in Ukraine’s political circles whether this will affect US aid – including military aid – if the Trump-Vance tandem wins the US election in November,” – the mass-media reported.

We shall remind you that earlier MP Maryana Bezuglaya said that the Ukrainian parliament was afraid to adopt draft law No. 8371 aimed at banning the Ukrainian Orthodox Church because of its rejection in the USA and the Vatican. Bezuglaya said that a parliamentary group from the Verkhovna Rada would soon travel to the USA to convince the Americans to give the green light to ban the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
