“226 votes collected": Poroshenko said that the Rada will be able to ban the UOC

The head of the European Solidarity party, former Ukrainian President and MP Petro Poroshenko, has said that the Verkhovna Rada has gathered enough votes to pass law No 8371 aimed at banning the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The words of the politician are reported by the media.

“If someone claims that there are no votes in the hall, I say that this is an absolute lie. 226 votes have been collected. And despite the insane pressure that is being exerted on individual deputies, I have no doubt that the law will be voted, because we have enough votes of deputies in the hall,” – Poroshenko said.

It is worth noting that a different opinion on the matter is held by Ukrainian MP Yevhen Shevchenko, who said that the scandalous bill No. 8371, aimed at banning the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, may be removed from the agenda in the Verkhovna Rada altogether. Shevchenko said that many MPs were afraid of possible US sanctions threatened to parliamentarians by UOC lawyer Robert Amsterdam.
