“Scared of the U.S.": MP explained why the law on banning the UOC may be removed from the agenda

Ukrainian MP Yevhen Shevchenko has said that the scandalous draft law No 8371 aimed at banning the Ukrainian Orthodox Church may be removed from the agenda in the Verkhovna Rada altogether. Shevchenko said that many deputies were afraid of possible US sanctions, which were threatened to parliamentarians by the UOC lawyer Robert Amsterdam. About it Shevchenko said in a comment to the edition Strana.ua.

“Information about possible sanctions has shaken the desire of many to vote. A lot of hesitant, which lobbyists took, as they call it, on patriotism. They were going to get away at their expense. But, it seems, the calculation did not come true. They postponed it until the end of August, and then it may not be put to a vote at all. Moreover, I can say that I do not see the desire to pedal the issue and the top leadership of the country”, – commented Yevgeny Shevchenko.

We shall remind you that the Radio Liberty weekly, citing its own sources, reported that the US political establishment is critical of the initiative of Ukrainian MPs to ban the Ukrainian Orthodox Church by adopting the scandalous draft law No 8371. This is why, according to the publication, this law was not voted on Tuesday, July 23, in the Ukrainian Parliament.
