All-Ukrainian Council of Churches supported the ban of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church - Volodymyr Zelenskiy

The All-Ukrainian Council of Churches and Religious Organizations (AUCCRO) has supported the adoption of the scandalous draft law No 8371 aimed at banning the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The corresponding statement was made by Volodymyr Zelensky following an online meeting with representatives of the organization. About the support of the AUCCRO the idea of banning the UOC the head of state told in his video message.

“Spoke with members of the Council of churches and religious organizations. And grateful for the support of our course on the spiritual independence of Ukraine. The Verkhovna Rada is proposed to the bill, which can really guarantee that there will be no manipulation from Moscow by the Ukrainian Church. This bill should work and should add a unity to Ukraine, our real spiritual unity,” – Zelenskyy said.

Earlier, the OCU lobbyist in the media and a freelance expert of the State Service for Ethnic Policy and Freedom of Conscience, religious scholar Andriy Smirnov, said that after the adoption of the law banning the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, the state should increase its influence on the clergy and believers of the denomination in order to persuade them to join the OCU. Smirnov is convinced that those who do not want to become part of the Ukrainian schism should leave Ukraine and go to Russia.
