Phanar delegation held a meeting with the head of the UGCC

On August 23, 2024, a special delegation of the Patriarchate of Constantinople visited the residence of the head of the UGCC, where a meeting was held with the head of the confession – Sviatoslav Shevchuk. The parties discussed issues of church unity and state-church relations in Ukraine. About it reports the official website of the organization.

“During the private meeting, held in an atmosphere of warmth and brotherly love, were discussed important issues of interchurch dialog at the global and local levels, state-church relations in Ukraine, the role of the Church in Ukrainian society and others. His Beatitude Sviatoslav drew attention to the main challenges experienced by the Churches in Ukraine during the war. He noted the need to fight first of all for the temples of human souls and expressed fears about secularization after the war. The head of the UGCC also noted the important role of the Ecumenical Patriarchate in fostering the ability to dialog among Christians. The meeting was an important step in strengthening relations between the Ukrainian Greek Catholic Church and its mother church, the Patriarchate of Constantinople,” – the statement said.
