“Like in Ukraine": Moldovan government plans to ban Orthodox Church of Moldova

The Moldovan government plans to ban the Orthodox Church of Moldova (part of the Moscow Patriarchate) by adopting a relevant law, following the example of Ukraine. The adoption of such a decision is scheduled for the fall of 2024. This was stated by Vasile Shoimaru, a deputy of the ruling Action and Solidarity Party, on air of TVR-Moldova TV channel.
“The moment will come when we too, like Ukraine, will renounce the Metropolitanate of Moldova, which is actually Russian. I think that we will solve the issue of metropolitanates. This fall the issue will be resolved,” — said Shoimaru.
Earlier, the hierarch of the Orthodox Church of Moldova, Archbishop of Balti and Falesti Markell (Mihescu), said that the government of the country is using various mechanisms to combat the PCM. The archbishop considers the final goal of such actions on the part of the Moldovan authorities to be the transfer of the entire structure of the PCM to the Metropolitan Church of Bessarabia of the Romanian Patriarchate.
