Ukrainian Protestants are actively lobbying to ban the UOC in the U.S. - Viktor Yelenskiy

Ukrainian Protestants are actively lobbying for a law banning the Ukrainian Orthodox Church among the political establishment in the United States, particularly the Republican Party. Ukrainian Baptists and Pentecostals, who speak the same religious language with Republicans, are particularly involved in the process. This was stated by Viktor Yelenskyy, head of the State Service of Ukraine for Ethnic Policy and Freedom of Conscience.

“It seems to me that we are doing a lot. And here I would especially emphasize the role played by our Protestants. At the beginning of this year, in March and April, they appealed to congressmen, they appealed to their fellow believers. And America is a Protestant country to a large extent. And our Baptists, our Pentecostals, they speak the same biblical terms with the Americans and knelt down and prayed together. This is very important. It is even more important that our Protestants tell us that there is real religious freedom in Ukraine. And it does exist in Ukraine, not in comparison with former Soviet countries. And sometimes with some Western European countries,” — the official said.

Earlier, MP Yaroslav Yurchyshyn of the Voice party said that representatives of Ukrainian Protestant denominations were delegated to the United States to convince their fellow believers in the Republican Party of the need for the Ukrainian parliament to pass Law No. 8371, which aims to ban the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.
