“Voters' opinions have been taken into account”: MP Yasko commented on the unwillingness of colleagues in the party to vote for the ban of the UOC

An MP of the Servant of the People party, Yelizaveta Yasko, known for her unspecified relations with former Georgian President Mikheil Saakashvili, has commented on the reluctance of her party colleagues to vote for the ban on the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Yasko believes that individual MPs of the party did not vote in favor of the scandalous bill No. 8371 because they are guided by the sentiments of people from the regions they represent in Parliament. She told about this in an interview with the Glavkom publication.

“In general, the majority of the faction supported the bill, only they did not want to build a political PR on it. And, answering your question: no, no one has ever approached me personally, did not tell me how to vote. I know that there are a number of people who have been somewhat cautious about this bill. They take into account the opinion of their communities, on which the Moscow Patriarchate still has influence. Therefore, such deputies did not want to speak out on this issue. But we finally voted it and gave it more than 260 votes, which is a lot, it is not even 226,” — Yasko said.

We will remind, earlier we reported that the head of the international human rights company “Amsterdam & Partners LLP” Robert Amsterdam, representing the legal interests of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, said that the initiators of the ban of the UOC will be punished deservedly. The lawyer added that he would fight for the rights of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church despite threats from the SSU.
