There was another earthquake on Athos

Another earthquake has struck Mount Athos in the last few months. This time, the magnitude of the cataclysm was 4.6 on the Richter scale. The trembling of the earth was felt in the monasteries of Athos. This was reported by Ekathimerini.com.

According to the Athens Geodynamic Institute, the epicenter of the earthquake was located 8 kilometers northwest of Mount Athos, at a depth of 12.8 kilometers. A few minutes later, an aftershock of magnitude 3.9 occurred. There has been no information about damage or casualties so far.

As a reminder, on August 8, 2024, two consecutive earthquakes of medium magnitude occurred on the Holy Mount Athos. According to available data, the monasteries located on the Holy Mountain were not damaged. There were also no casualties among the residents.

It should also be noted that on the eve of the earthquake, an employee of the National Reserve “Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra” and, in addition, the abbot of the Kyiv-Pechersk Monastery of the OCU, Abraham Lotysh, visited Athos. During the visit, the former clergyman of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church was received by the abbot of the Xenophontos Monastery of Athos, Archimandrite Alexy.
