OCU announces religious events with Dumenko's participation in selected UOC cathedral in Lviv

On September 30, 2024, in St. George’s Cathedral in Lviv, which was taken away from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, religious events will be held, led by the head of the OCU Epiphany Dumenko. It is reported that Dumenko will perform Vespers. The information was published on the Facebook page “Church of St. George the Victorious, OCU”.

It is reported that this will be the first visit of the head of the OCU to St. George’s Cathedral, which was taken away from the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Despite this, Dumenko will honor the former main church of the UOC of the city with his presence only as part of the “vespers”. Apparently, no religious events such as a “liturgy” are planned.

As reported, St. George’s Cathedral of the UOC in Lviv was seized by supporters of the OCU in April 2023. At that time, the Lviv Diocesan Administration reported that at 9:00 a.m., unknown people (up to 50 people) entered the territory of the cathedral and blocked the entrance to the territory and the church. Under the chairmanship of Yuriy Kholod, deputy chairman of the Lviv Regional Council, they held a “parish meeting” on the “transfer” of the church community to the OCU.
