Supporters of the OCU disrupted the service in St. George's Cathedral in Lviv and seized the temple

On April 5, 2023, supporters of the OCU disrupted the service at St. George’s Cathedral in Lviv. A group of people simulated holding a meeting of the religious community of the cathedral in order to capture this temple. This was reported by the Information and Educational Department of the UOC.

The Lviv diocesan administration reported that at 9:00, unknown people (up to 50 people) entered the territory of the cathedral and blocked the entrance to the territory and the temple. Under the chairmanship of Yuri Kholod, Deputy Chairman of the Lviv Regional Council, they held a “parish meeting” about the “transition” of the church community to the OCU.

The meeting was also attended by the «priest» of the Lviv «eparchy» of the OCU under the leadership of «Metropolitan» Makariy. Representatives of the OCU have already held their “prayer service” in the temple.

Despite this, believers defend their legal rights to the cathedral. The parishioners reminded the provocateurs that the Ukrainian Orthodox Church condemned the Russian invasion, and also stressed the need to comply with the Law of Ukraine.

Provocateurs shouted pseudo-patriotic slogans in the cathedral and tried to provoke a violent confrontation. The operator, who was broadcasting live, was escorted out of the church by the police.

Now the so-called «commission» works in the cathedral.

One person became ill, they put him on a bench and bring him to his senses. The ambulance is on its way to help.

Young radicals have pulled up to the temple, who are already unfurling their posters, but at the same time they do not want to be removed. The vicar of the diocese, Bishop Jacob of Drohobych, came out to the activists.
