The vicar of the Svyatogorsk Lavra was allowed to participate in court hearings in the online format

Lawyers of the vicar of the Holy Assumption Svyatogorsk Lavra, Metropolitan Arseniy, have obtained the court’s permission for the UOC hierarch to participate in court hearings in an online format. The court made the relevant decision during the preparatory meeting at the end of September 2024. About it reports the official website of the Svyatogorsk Lavra.

“From July to September in all court sessions that took place in Slavyansk, Metropolitan Arseny participated in person. For this purpose, he was escorted each time from the Dnipro SIZO, where the vladyka is in custody. Metropolitan Arseniy suffers from a number of chronic diseases, and such transportation was harmful to his health: the trips lasted at least 15 hours (600 kilometers) in both directions, including on hot days, when the thermometer in the shade reached 37-40 degrees Celsius. The Vladyka was transported in an autozak, which is designed for intra-oblast, i.e. short movements, in a “glass” — a cramped box of 50 cm × 70 cm × 150 cm, where it is impossible to change one’s position. All the time of the moves, the vicar of Lavra remained without food and water; such convoys were torture for Vladyka Arseny. In particular, after transportation to the court and back to the pre-trial detention center on August 27, Vladyka restored his health for two days”, — explained in the press service of the monastery.

We will remind, earlier we reported that the hierarch of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church vicar of the Holy Assumption Svyatogorsk Lavra Metropolitan Arseny (Yakovenko) was left in pre-trial detention until October 13, 2024. The corresponding decision was made by the Slavyansk city district court on August 15.
