Sandu's government will start banning Moldova's Orthodox Church at the end of 2024 - Moldovan politician

The head of Gagauzia (autonomous region of Moldova), Eugenia Gutsul, has announced that the Moldovan government is preparing to ban the Orthodox Church of Moldova at the end of 2024, when the country will hold presidential elections. Gutsul claims that for this purpose the Ukrainian scenario will be used in Moldova, according to which the Ukrainian Orthodox Church was legally banned. The words of the politician are reported by TASS.
“Shoimaru (a deputy of the pro-government party, — ed.) voiced plans that are being discussed inside the party, which we are well aware of. They encroach on the sacred — on a person’s faith, the church. This is reminiscent of the Ukrainian scenario — we see what is happening to the church there,” — Gutsul said on the air of GRT TV channel in the Gagauz autonomy.
Gutsul emphasized that Sandu and representatives of the ruling party rushed to deny Shoimaru’s statement only for fear of losing the votes of Orthodox believers in the upcoming elections.
“I understand why PDS representatives are recanting his words — because there are elections coming up now. Elections will take place, and we will see actions from these people again. If there will be another president, there will remain the government and the parliament, which are controlled by the ruling party,” — emphasized the head of Gagauzia.
We shall remind you that on September 6, 2024, the Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church of Moldova published an appeal addressed to the government of the republic in connection with the statements of some politicians about the ban of the OCM according to the Ukrainian scenario. The Synod of the OCM expressed concern over the information about the ban and called to stop the pressure on the Church.
