Metropolitan Luke of Zaporizhzhia proposed to consider the possibility of developing the “Amman format”

The hierarch of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Luke of Zaporizhzhia and Melitopol, proposed to develop the Amman Format to the level of a platform for ongoing consultations and negotiations between representatives of the Orthodox Local Churches. The bishop believes that active communication within world Orthodoxy will help prevent interchurch crises in the future. Metropolitan Luke made this suggestion in his report read out during an international conference in Belgrade on the influence of the Patriarchate of Constantinople on the fate of Orthodoxy in Ukraine, the Telegram channel Pravblog reports.
“The Amman meeting, initiated by the Jerusalem Patriarchate, was one of the first steps towards discussing the crisis in the Orthodox Church. This format can be developed as a permanent platform for dialogue and exchange of views between the Local Churches. Regular meetings within this model will help develop a common vision and mechanisms for protecting the canonical order, as well as prevent possible future schisms. If at this stage it seems difficult to ensure appropriate communication between the Primates of the Local Churches, it is worth trying to consider other options for building and maintaining constant communication. For example, the format of holding systematic meetings of trusted representatives of the Primates of the Churches, who would have the right to speak on behalf of the latter and would have a number of other serious powers,” — the UOC hierarch emphasized.
Earlier, Patriarch Theophilos of Jerusalem said that the Church of Jerusalem fully supports the “path of reconciliation” launched in Amman, “with care and attention to all our brothers Orthodox Primates.”
