The trial of Metropolitan Theodosius postponed due to hospitalization of the bishop

The next court hearing in the case of the hierarch of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, Metropolitan Theodosius of Cherkasy and Kaniv, which was scheduled for October 23, 2024, was postponed due to the hospitalization of the bishop. Metropolitan Theodosius is in the hospital due to injuries sustained during the seizure of the Archangel Michael Cathedral of the UOC in Cherkasy by the radicals of the OCU. A petition to postpone the hearing to another date was filed by the bishop’s lawyer, according to Suspilne.Cherkasy.
“On October 21, Yudin filed a petition with a request to postpone the court hearing, since during the clash near the church, the Metropolitan was injured: a concussion and a first-degree burn of the eye,” the judge commented.
As reported, on the night of October 17, 2024, in Cherkasy, supporters of the OCU, with the support of local authorities, made another attempt to seize the Archangel Michael Cathedral of the Cherkasy Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The armed raiders, taking advantage of the curfew, freely entered the church and the diocesan premises at night, but with the onset of morning, the head of the Cherkasy Diocese of the UOC, Metropolitan Theodosius, the clergy and parishioners of the cathedral gathered and defended the shrine, expelling the invaders.
After an unsuccessful nighttime attempt to seize the church, the OCU raiders, having increased their number, finally took possession of the Archangel Michael Cathedral of the Cherkasy Diocese of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. During the next clash, the clergy and parishioners of the church were expelled from the premises. Many clergymen and believers of the UOC suffered injuries of varying severity and chemical burns from the raiders’ use of tear gas.
