Poroshenko says he discussed creation of OCU with Trump

The head of the European Solidarity party and former president of Ukraine, Petro Poroshenko, said that he had discussed granting autocephaly to the OCU with US President-elect Donald Trump. Poroshenko said that this information was not public before, but now he can reveal this secret. Poroshenko said this on the air of the Pryamyy TV channel under his control.

“Trump was elected during my presidency in 2016. We worked with him until 2019. One of the first meetings after Trump’s election was a meeting with me as the Ukrainian president. And I can emphasize that as a result of these meetings, it was Trump who made the decision to transfer lethal weapons to Ukraine. […] It was with Trump – and I can now reveal this secret – that we discussed the need to obtain autocephaly for the Orthodox Church of Ukraine,” – the former president said.

Earlier, the head of the international human rights company Amsterdam & Partners LLP, Robert Amsterdam, who represents the legal interests of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, called for the head of the European Solidarity party, Petro Poroshenko, to be taken under investigation. The human rights activist is convinced that the ex-president, calling for the ban of the UOC, is committing high treason.
