“It will be like Kyiv Cave Monastery": Head of the State Department of Ecumenical Affairs predicts the future of Sviatohirsk Lavra

Viktor Yelenskyy, head of the State Service of Ukraine for Ethnic Policy and Freedom of Conscience, predicted the future of the Holy Dormition Sviatohirsk Lavra. The official is convinced that sooner or later the authorities will be able to make the monastery “a symbol of Ukrainian spirituality,” as happened with the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. This is reported on the website of the department.

“The director of the municipal institution ‘Administration of the State Historical and Architectural Reserve in Sviatohirsk’ Igor Saletsky also shared information about the state of the Sviatohirsk Lavra, which has almost 30 objects, at least six of which were destroyed as a result of hostilities. In his closing remarks, Victor Yelenskyy, Head of the DESS, emphasized that over the past year and a half, the Kyiv Cave Monastery has changed: from a center of the so-called “Russian world” it has become a symbol of Ukrainian spirituality. He also expressed confidence that similar processes are waiting for the Sviatohirsk Lavra, which will become an important spiritual center of the Ukrainian people,” the statement reads.

Earlier, the head of the right-wing radical nationalist group “Brotherhood” Dmitry Korchinsky said that on November 4, 2024, the organization held a “prayer meeting” in the Refectory Church of the Holy Dormition Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. During the event, the organization’s members were awarded medals.
