Patriarchate of Antioch calls on Syrians to exercise prudence in connection with the political crisis in the country

The press service of the Patriarchate of Antioch has issued a statement in connection with the political crisis in Syria. The Antiochian Orthodox Church urged the Syrian people to be judicious and work together for a prosperous future of the country. The statement was posted on the official Facebook page of the Antiochian Patriarchate.
“Syria has been and remains a country that God has singled out as the cradle of his heavenly messages and the springboard of his messengers and prophets, despite all the historical periods that have passed through it. Today, Syria is at a new crossroads in its history, pointing to a prosperous future that every Syrian dreams of; a future that reflects the identity of Syria, the land of civilization and the cradle of history.
This phase requires common sense, solidarity and concerted efforts. But above all, trust in God and trust in His mercy and wisdom to remain steadfast in loving the country and preserving the dignity of its people.
Therefore, as a Church rooted in this great East, we will work to continue her journey in serving humanity and spreading peace and harmony among people in a country where law prevails and democratic institutions function.
Therefore, at this delicate stage, the Church calls on all her parishioners and every Syrian citizen, regardless of ethnic, political and religious affiliation, to fulfill their national duty by trying to unite the ranks, preserve public and private property, cultivate security in their surroundings, exercise restraint in the face of whatever may befall them, exercise prudence and extend a hand to those who are responsible for the welfare of this good country. The Church calls on all those who care to make efforts to control violations and ensure the dignity of every citizen so that we can move together towards a brighter tomorrow,” — the statement said.
We will remind, earlier we reported that in the Romanian Orthodox Church urged believers not to participate in anti-government actions related to the annulment of the results of the first round of the presidential election by the Constitutional Court of Romania. The ROMOC believes that the participation of believers in the protests may have negative consequences for the Church.
