Heads of Local Orthodox Churches express support for the Patriarchate of Antioch

The Primates of the Local Orthodox Churches expressed support for the Patriarchate of Antioch in connection with the political crisis that led to the overthrow of the government in Syria. The heads of the Patriarchates of Constantinople, Jerusalem, Serbia, Romania and Bulgaria, as well as the Primates of the Churches of Cyprus, Greece and Albania expressed their position on the events in Syria. It is reported that the Primates of the Local Orthodox Churches contacted Patriarch John of Antioch by phone, from whom they received information about what was happening and expressed their full support to him, the clergy and people of the Church of Antioch.
“In the context of the recent events in Syria, we want to express our deep solidarity with Orthodox Christians who are under the spiritual and canonical jurisdiction of His Beatitude, as well as with all those who suffer from the ongoing violence and conflict,” — said Romanian Patriarch Daniel.
Earlier, the press service of the Antiochian Patriarchate issued a statement in connection with the political crisis in Syria. The Antiochian Orthodox Church called on the Syrian people to be reasonable and work together for the prosperous future of the country.
