Mayor of Cherkasy continues to incite hatred against UOC

The mayor of Cherkasy, Anatoly Bondarenko, has once again publicly insulted the clergy and believers of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Bondarenko called the clergy of the UOC “FSB agents” and called on the Security Service of Ukraine to increase pressure on the Church. Bondarenko said this during an interview with the regional TV channel Vikka.

“I am sure that a large number of priests of the UOC-MP are agents of the Russian FSB. […] I have a question — maybe the law enforcement agencies did not finalize it? I urge law enforcement agencies to treat FSB agents more harshly. I will tell you that in the third year of a full-scale war, the UOC-MP feels as free as the UOC-MP and talks about persecution, as no KGB or FSB agent network feels in any country in the world,” — Bondarenko said on air.

Earlier, Metropolitan Theodosius of Cherkasy and Kaniv reported that the mayor of Cherkasy Anatoly Bondarenko was excommunicated in connection with his participation in the seizure of the Archangel Michael Cathedral of the Cherkasy Diocese of the UOC. The hierarch added that Bondarenko always has the opportunity to repent if he wants to.
