Commission of the Ministry of Culture continues to attack the Assumption Cathedral of the UOC in Kaniv

A commission of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine continues to try to take possession of the Holy Dormition (St. George) Cathedral of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Kaniv. On December 20, 2024, representatives of the Ministry of Culture arrived at the church to get inside and begin an inventory of the property. According to the Ministry, they have all the permits to carry out such procedures, but the religious community of the UOC, which has maintained the Assumption Cathedral for decades without violating any laws, believes otherwise and does not allow the commission to enter the church. This was reported by Suspilne.Cherkasy.

“The state registration of property rights was carried out, a derivative right was registered for the Shevchenko National Reserve, and the day before yesterday the reserve filed for execution in terms of the authority and obligation of the Kyiv Metropolis of the UOC to transfer the cathedral to the Shevchenko Reserve,” — said Dmytro Bohachev, legal consultant of the Shevchenko National Reserve.

In turn, representatives of the religious community of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which has been taking care of the Assumption Cathedral for the past 20 years, demand that their representatives be included in the property inventory commission. That is why the commission of the Ministry of Culture was not allowed to enter the church for the second time.

Earlier, we reported that the rector and parishioners of the ancient Holy Dormition (St. George) Cathedral of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in Kaniv did not allow the commission of the Ministry of Culture of Ukraine to enter the church to conduct an inventory of property. According to members of the religious community, the Ministry of Culture did not include representatives of the UOC in the commission, which is the reason why this issue arose.
